Cuisinart Supreme ice cream maker

glutton Apr 11, 2007 09:53 PM

I've seen good reviews of the cheaper Cuisinart ice cream maker, but what about their Supreme Ice Cream Maker? It's the model with the built-in compressor, so you don't have to freeze the bowl for hours beforehand. Costs about $300. Anybody have experience with this model? I did not see any reviews in the other posts about ice cream makers.

I hope someone has tried this as my interest has also been piqued. Anyone?

What kind of ice cream maker did you end up getting, glutton?

No personal experience, but David Lebovitz (author of "The Perfect Scoop") says it is a good unit, albeit noisy. You should be able to find it for less than $300.

For the price it's a great deal. Having said that, it's not an industrial strength unit, but it's not priced like one either. The next comparable unit would be the Musso 4080 Lussino, but it's $700 these days! If you purchase the Cuisinart unit don't expect to make lots of back to back batches without mechanical failure at some point.

A nice alternative would be an older Simac unit. If you do a search on eBay, there are generally several listed. Get the cleanest one you can find and enjoy it. These are well made Italian units that were top of the line ten years ago. The downside being parts availability.
