Dinner Sat in Palo Alto- help!
Hi- Orange County hound in town this weekend; my dad inviting 3 of us to dinner. We usually go to Il Fornaio, which is fine- but looking for suggestions. Maybe less expensive than Spago (is that still fabulous?). Thanks-
vero - if you want to stick with italian
tamerine - my personal favorite, formal vietnamese
marche - not sure if this is less the spago, probably just about the same.
kaygetsu - japanese
You might wanna check out Lavande or even Strada. Have had some good meals at Lavande - they have a pretty good wine list too. Strada is more of an Italian place - had just an ok meal there but have friends who love that place. There is also the new restaurant on University called Madison & 5th. I only had drinks there and a couple of appts. but it was decent. Tamarine is also very popular - haven't tried it myself but its have been to their other restaurant.
I would recommend St. Michael's Alley, on Emerson near Whole Foods. Small, intimate, good wine list (especially local Santa Cruz Mt wines), good food, good service and cheaper than Marche, Spago, Evvia, etc. I've had disappointing food at Strada. I like Tamarine too, but always find myself returing to St. Mikes. Website is www.stmikes.com.
