Perry, Ga.

I will be in Perry Saturday and Sunday nights attending a dog show with my inlaws.
(it's as bad as it sounds) Please help with any suggestions. I am not looking for fine dining, just save me form the cracker barrel and/or waffle house, if at all possible - and thanks,

    1. It really depends on what days and meals that you are planning on eating there.

For lunch on Saturday, Judy’s Sandwich Shoppe is a nice place to eat in Perry. It closes at 2:30 on Saturday and is closed for the remainder of the weekend.

For dinner on Saturday, you could eat at Yoder’s Mennonite restaurant in the country near Montezuma. It would be about a 20 mile drive from Perry. It closes at 8 pm on Saturday and is not open on Sunday.

On Sunday for either breakfast or lunch, I would go to Tom & Sandy’s Horseshoe restaurant in Hawkinsville. This is one of my favorite restaurants in middle Georgia for good Southern country cooking. It would be a country drive of 20 miles or so. The Horseshoe is not open in the evening.

The Swanson Restaurant is Perry is another good choice. It is a little more upscale than the other places, but there are several blue plate specials available. I ate there a couple of weeks ago and had fried tilapia. It was very good.

Wow. I wish there had been Chowhound when I had to do time in Hawkinsville back in the early 90's. We were there for horse shows, and found nothing worth eating. There wasn't even fast food...and we would have rather gone to a chain than the stuff we found. I remember one place we went actually had two doors, and what appeared to be a segregated dining room, although there were no signs.

We ate "fancy" one night at some B&B...Black Swan maybe? Mediocre "continental", but it beat the heck out of our previous attempts. We still laugh about the Hawkinsville trips.

Tee, things may be better in Perry, better w/ the passing of time, and better with Chowhound guidance, but I would still take a couple of power bars just in case.

Here a link that shows what the Horseshoe looks like:

Looks like some pretty self-respecting meat and three to me. One really should take one's food recs from someone other than their horse trainer. The best thing about Hawkinsville to me was seeing the pecan groves.

                    Thanks Danna.
I have been warned that the choices are few but maybe Blue Eagle has helped me.(thanks B.E.!) These trips are often way out of my control so even if there were viable options next to the arena I would still end up at the inlaws choice.
