Wailea Restaurants for 70 th Birthday
Hi! I will be in Maui for about a week, taking along the entire family along with my parents to celebrate his 70 th Birthday. I don't know where exactly to take him. He has never been to Maui, but we have a few times. We would prefer to saty in Wailea at night because that is where our hotel is (Grand Wailea) and also because I get a little nervous on the roads in Maui at night. (During the day, no problem)
Here is some of my favorites:
Spago
Nick's
Sarento's
Humhum....
I am sure I am missing oout on others...can you help? Even if it is close to Wailea, that is great, but for his actual birthday, I would like a great place. He is not a picky eater so any cuisine will suffice. (I ABSOLUTELY hate Longhi's)
Thanks for all your help!
Alos, curious, is'nt there an "Irish" type pub in Wailea? The name is escaping me at the moment.

We go to Maui every year and the best restaurant in Wailea is Nick's hands down. I would definitely recommend you don't eat at any of the Four Seasons restaurants if you want something special. Fantastic resort to stay at but the food is mediocre across the board.

My votes are for Spago (you can have the chef cook just for you and have a fabulous
meal) or selections from the menu, there's something for everyone and if you go early
you will see whales and a gorgeous sunset. My other vote would be for Joe's at the
Wailea Tennis Center. A really nice restaurant with good atmosphere, lots of interesting
things on the walls and delicious food, again something for everyone. It is owned by the same couple who own Hailiimaile General Store which is a not miss on Maui also but with your reservations about driving on the roads at night you might take that choice for a great lunch. I was just at the GW again and I think we used the shuttle service to get to Joe's which was very convenient. I liked Nick's too, the food was good, somewhat hokey, the flaming desserts and stuff and there seem to be at least 10 different people waiting on your table so it was hard to figure who was doing what. Nice setting though. I like Sarento's but you may not want to drive there either.
At least for Spago you can walk along the beautiful beach path or take the shuttle. -
We're going to Maui next week - haven't been there in years! So, I cannot personally vouch for the following, but I've been planning for this trip and the following couple of restaurants in Wailea came highly recommended - maybe others who have been to them can jump in...
Ferraro's (at the Four Seasons)
Capische (at the Diamond Resort)
Also, in my research, I came across an Irish pub in Wailea (and was surprised). Here's the link: http://www.mulligansontheblue.com/.
Good luck-›6 Replies-

re: food_for_thought
Yes. I try to post reviews of all of my meals, and preface them by Island/location. That way, folk can search, say for "Poipu" and get the reviews fo that area of Kaua`i.
Just start the thread with your post, and others will likely chime in. If not, think about the service that you are offering to the next 'hound, who is heading that way - provided that they do a search first.
