Date place in Union Square

a

Need to find a 2nd date place in Union Square. Any type of food, preferably reasonably priced, hoping to be near a good dessert place afterward (though that's a secondary thing).

Any ideas?

    Giorgio's of Gramercy
    Craftbar
Tavern Room at Gramercy Tavern (although I don't know what the wait is like these days)

Candela has recently closed down until sometime in the fall. Steak frites is kind of meh...bad service usually. I would second Giorgio's of Gramercy, it's cozy and quiet. Then you could go across the street to MetroCafe & Wine bar for some good chocolate cake afterwards.

Or you could just spend the whole evening at MetroCafe and get dinner, dessert and some flights of wine/beer there.

I agree w/you re: Steak Frites. Bad service and just OK food.

Yama, I really enjoy the sushi there (I know the size of the pieces are controversial here) and the tempura ice cream is great.

Casa Mono and Bar Jamon are also in the area.

Although I am not sure I would call Union Square Cafe reasonably priced, I think it is very reasonable given the quality of food and service. I think 2 people can get out of there for under $200 with wine, when my wife was pregnant and I was the only one drinking our bills were usually in the $150-160 area after tax and tip.

I will have to disagree with Casa Mono and Bar Jamon. Too crowded and you will be able to listen to all the conversation of the table next to you. Not a good date place.

I always think Terralucci e vino makes a nice date place, if its not too crowded and you can get a table in the back.

Borgo Antico is nice: moderately priced Italian w/ some game specials...i like dining in the more casual downstairs bar area...
