the north end in N. White Plains

momof3 Apr 10, 2007 11:56 AM

I was driving on North Bway today and I saw that Jimmie Lee's BBQ is closed and is now called "the North End".
This is the site that used to be Sweetwaters before it was the BBQ joint.
Has anyone been there?
thoughts, reviews?

There was a thread on this a few weeks back. Do a search on North End and it should come up. If I recall, some people were raving about it.

I searched for the thread you speak of, couldn't find anything.
If you know where it is, could you post the link?

Found it but it wasn't easy. The comments about North End are buried in the middle of this thread on BBQ in the area. Here ya go.

I have been there a couple times, I am from WP and eat out a lot. I used to go to the BBQ place when it was there.
The menu is like a mix of contemporary and new american. I took my girlfriend there for our 4 yr anniversary and we really enjoyed it. I especially liked the seared tenderloin tips w/garlic toast &cucumber salad, the pasta pie which I've never heard of before but was delicous, the shrimp scampi over linguini, and the Heath bar cake....the service was very good too, which was one of the major problems of Jimmie Lee's....would definately have no problem recommending to others....

Had a real disappointing experience there on Father's Day. We went in mid-afternoon, there was only one other table occupied and the service was very slow. They had a special Father's Day menu with limited choices, none of the items mentioned above.

A soup had to be sent back (and our waitress was no where to be found), although to their credit they replaced it fairly quickly and took it off the bill. As another gal took it into the kitchen, you could hear her yelling to the cook: "Need another onion soup!"

I asked the waitress about the shell steak, not being familiar with that cut, I asked if it was like a skirt steak. She replied that it looked the same to her. I ordered it, and it came out like a big filet. The steak and her knowledge of the menu were both disappointing.

The noise from the bar and the wait-staff themselves is very loud and filters through the whole restaurant, you can hear every conversation and it was not a relaxing experience. They need to pay more attention to those kind of details. For instance, the meager bread basket contained 3 small pieces of bread and when we polished those off, they didn't offer to replace them. They also need to educate the staff more about the menu.

I doubt we will be going back.

interesting...I went there for dinner with my family (six of us) last night for fathers day and I thought the veal chop was exquisite....I really have come to enjory that place and eat there quite frequently, but I would agree that the staff could be more knowledgable and descriptive, although they are very friendly

Went there last night for dinner with friends. Food and service were excellent. The decor is beautiful- really nice atmosphere. We were told it's under new management. I'd definitely recommend it.

Under new management from Jimmie Lee's or under new management from when it reopened as the North End back in May/June?

I have been there several times since the summer and find the place to be a wonderful eating experience with a real nice bar adorned with historic photos of White Plains. The food is great and the prices very reasonable. Portions are big!
