Mishima, anything like it?

ceejoi Apr 10, 2007 11:13 AM

I live in the Inland Empire and do not visit LA on a regular basis to eat. (I know-I'm missing out on alot of good stuff!) However I am madly in love with Mishima. The Japanese restaurants around here do not make as good tasting food as Mishima does. Since this is the only Japanese restaurant I've been to in LA, I don't want to limit myself if there is something better out there.

I was wondering if there are any other Japanese restaurants that make the same or even better food??

You should explore 2 Japanese neighborhoods, Little Tokyo (downtown) and Sawtelle Blvd. (West L.A.). There are dozens of Japanese restaurants that make dishes that are similar but often better than what Mishima prepares. Just one example is Blue Marlin on Sawtelle; it has great Japanese curry dishes as well as unique Japanese pasta dishes. I'm sure if you do a search for ramen on this site, you'll find dozens of threads that will lead you to the best bowls of japanese noodles as well.

OTOFUKU, gardena - temple of soba and seirosoba, hole in the wall noodle house

then go to, in the area, KOTOHIRA for udon.

neither are stylish, but both are the among the best in artisanal noodle making.

try the trays of uni at OTOFUKU.
