Portland, Maine - Lobster restaurants?

My fiance and I are planning to visit Portland in May based solely on the great things we hear about their restaurants. I'm from NY and we have great restaurants here and I don't know much about Maine. The only thing I know about Maine is Lobster and I love Lobster. We're looking for restaurants in the Portland area for a great place to eat Lobsters. I mean serious amounts of Lobsters.. talking boatloads. I'm looking for one of those non-classy joints where I can eat multiple lobsters in one sitting. Where can one find such a place? Does one exist? How expensive?

We are from Brooklyn. Try: Gilbert's Chowder House in Portland, should be exactly what your looking for. Last year we got two 1.25 lb lobsters for $30. Don't miss the NE chowder.

Did you find what you were looking for? We'd love to hear a rundown of the do's and don'ts of where to eat in Portland.

If you are looking for a truly non classy joint to eat lots of lobster I think newicks www.newicks.com in South Portland may be your best bet. If you are looking for a little better view, then The Lobster Shack at Two Lights State Park will probably be a better bet.

Unfortunately bad weather and cold ocean temps have conspired to drive lobster prices even here in Maine higher than they have been in a very long time. Hopefully by the time you get here they will be much lower.

My wife and I are planning a trip for early next week. Has the price of lobster gone down since April? And, I was wondering if there were any more suggestions for additional restaurants. Seafood is a plus, and atmosphere is key. Someplace where the food is king, and people line up for it and have a good time.

          Any thoughts?
