Berger's Deli - Diamond District

seethemoon Apr 9, 2007 07:09 PM

Hi hounds,
I haven't been to the city in about 6 years. While this is my 5th trip my partner has never experienced New York and all it's wonders. Is Berger's still on 47th? While we have a couple of good deli's in Houston, I would like to add a deli to our ever expanding list of eats.

I'll be hitting the board in late spring to get advice for other ideas as we firm up our plans.

Berger's closed down a year or so ago. Diamond Dairy and Taim Tov are the last authentic places in the area. Not delis but very authentic restaurants. The potato pancakes, blitzes, and even noodles and cabbage at DD are all second to none. At Taim, it's all about the pilaf ("pilav"?...whatever...the rice dishes).

Sareg's Deli on 3rd Ave is very good too.

Another post on here says that Berger's just moved:

However, the Yellow Pages still lists it on 47th. Anyone been by lately?

I've walked by. The whole building is gone. Can't speak to the alledged new location.

Why not just head down to Katz's?.......
