Aliseo

In contrast to our ho hum dinner at Good Fork (reviewed separately), we had another excellent time at Aliseo. Five of us all had fresh, interesting, lively plates and all would return in a flash (and will). My mixed antipasti had a good tapenade alongside very tasty dried sausage & pecorino. The table's olives were marinated in good oil laced with dried lemons (oranges?) and some herbs. Ginny's small meatballs were of excellent quality and execution, rolled in sesame seeds... very tasty. And the fresh calamari salad (not breaded or fried) over fennel was full of tender, non-rubbery critters on very sharp tasty fennel. Even the tricolore salad that one friend ordered was full of tastes, showing a skilled hand.

All the entrees were excellent as well, with the fish in parchment that 2 at the table ordered being the usual stand-out moist, juicy, flavorful preparation I've had before. My fettucini special, with smoked monkfish & "sand shark" (?... new one for me) in a light cream sauce was a real winner & Ginny's homemade hand torn pasta sheets with zucchini, pine nuts and other good things I'm now forgetting was also quite good. I can't remember the 5th entree but dont remember anyone leaving anything over.

This, to me, is one of the under-rated, under-written about places to eat in Bklyn and, if al di la wasnt so damn close by, I'd be here more often. If only for the fresh, abundant parma ham and parma cheese offerred. I cant believe it's taken me this long to appreciate what's going on here.

Thanks for the reminder--we had been a while ago, and hadn't been back...until tonight. It was just 2 of us, and we both ordered pasta. I had the same special you described, which was delicious, and Lance had the pasta with beef, chicken and tomato ragu, which was also very good.

The room is lovely--very warm and inviting, with just the right level of crowdedness--most tables filled but no wait. Service was very friendly. All in all, a very pleasant meal, so, again, thanks for the reminder.
