Delfina Report - Still *Outstanding*
Went with my wife and mother to Delfina for a special birthday celebration dinner, and it remains my favorite restaurant in the Bay Area. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated promptly. We brought a special notle of wine, and our server offered to decant it for us before we could even ask - a nice touch.
To start, we shared the tripe (outstanding - the best I've had in the US - and I love that they continue to feature it on the menu), the wild boar sausage (very large serving - and delicious), and the asparagus salad - also wonderful, but a tad small.
For main dishes, we had the prosciutto ravioli in a mascarpone sauce which managed to be very rich, but also pillow-light, the steak (with an incredible reduction sauce - including bone marrow, sangiovese) and fabulous fries with fried sage leaves, and the lamb, also outstanding - including leg meat and meat from ribs - a nice contrast in taste and consistency. The lamb also came with polenta which was eyes-rolling-back-into-your-head good. We shared delicious profiteroles for dessert.
Everything was top notch, and the service was friendly, attentive and wonderful. It made for a very special evening. Delfina continues to shine!
Good to know that they're still turning out fantastic food!
