Gelato in MSP?

latte4me Apr 7, 2007 01:21 PM

Not in a sit-down restaurant, but the other kind - like an ice cream shop. Went to Calhoun Square today and discovered that the gelato place there is no longer. (Yeah, it's been awhile since I've been there.) So, are there any gelato places left in the area? Or are we destined to live an ice cream-only existence? Sigh.

If you're in Apple Valley, Luxury Sweets has good gelato. ("good" is a carefully chosen word here). As with most things in Apple Valley, we southoftheriver folks are glad to have it, but it's nothing you should rush out to from downtown.

I find myself wishing the Buon Giorno guys in Lilydale would do gelato (are you listening?!?!). Their baked desserts are phenomenal as are their cannoli. I suspect they would make killer gelato.

Cafe Amore (Grand and Oxford) in Saint Paul has gelato. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks good.

Now that I think of it, doesn't Tarracino (NE Mpls, between Bruegger's and Punch) have gelato?

And Fat Lorenzo's (Cedar & 57th S) has gelato, too.

Fat Lorenzo's on Cedar Ave at Lake Nokomis sells gelato. The sign outside claims it's homemade. It is very tasty. Better than the place that used to be in Calhoun.
