Rome restaurant on via Cavour close to Colosseum
I was in Italy in January and fell in love with a small restaurant close to the Colosseum on via Cavour. If you are walking from the train station area towards the Colosseum, it is on the right hand side of the street and I think it is just past the Sitar Indian restaurant. They put a few tables outside on the sidewalk but it doesn't have a tent or anything over it. There is a scooter rental place next door.
I fell in love with this restaurant while I was there, but before I left I forgot to take a picture of the sign or write down the name or anything. Has anyone been there recently or live there that might know what its called?

I know what restaurant you are talking about, walking from the train station area towards the Colosseum, on the right hand side of the street next to a scooter rental place. With a few tables outdoor. Its called LArchetto di Cavour and it has a blue awning. Food was ok, felt very homemade kind of. We had a nice bresaola carpaccio with ruccola and parmesano, a "could be better bolognese" and a very good Lobster pasta. Cozy place and service was nice, but remember to ask for the prices of the house recommended specials to avoid surprises on your bill. Could go there again.

It could very well be Valentinos at Via Cavour 293 - a small trattoria my wife andI go to whenever we are in Rome. It's located on the right side of Via Cavour when headed for the Roman Forum (near Via dei Serpenti) and in the past few years has usually had a couple of tables out front. It's been run by Valentino and Vicenzo for years and serves tradiotional trattoria food.
P.S.
If you're in the mood for pizza you might try La Carrozza, hidden away in an alley off the same side of Via Cavour just befor Cavour reaches Via dei Fori Imperiale (Evenings only).P.P.S.
If you like old fashioned trattoria style then try Da Nazarene at Via Magenta only one block from the West side of the Termini train station - Excellent!!›7 Replies-

re: CJT
Noticed today while walking down Via Cavour lunchtime that there is a place on the right hand side past via dei serpenti call Da Valentino (green and white striped awning) and it is open. The sign says there closing day is friday, although i seem to remember it being closed more frequently than that. It didn't have a particularly appealing look to it though, kind of grayish with a standard old looking touristy menu in three languages. There are several neighborhood places when you go down into Monti which are simple roman cooking (not destination places, but if you are in the neighborhood and hungry) that would seem to be a better bet.
BTW, i see La Piazzetta mentioned from time to time - where is it exactly anyway?

re: mbfant
am i correct that la piazzetta is not open on sundays? if so, we're major bummed as that was my pick after a long day of a forum/palentine hill/colloseum trip and then to san petro in vincoli.
would you recommend something yummy - not fussy or formal - for a sunday night dinner near there?

Not a restaurant, but rather a wine bar that serves solid assortments of salumi e formaggi. Cavour 313, our go-to site in the area, particularly if we're looking for a light meal.

Well thats my neighbourhood, so would love to find a love worthy place in that area. Sitar is the indian restuarant, but coming down from the train station is is on the left side of the street. Cavour 313 is interesting but yeah, I don't remember any tables outside. I think the scooter rental place is on the left hand side though, isn't it. Will have to walk down there with my eyes open today or tomorrow.

re: KMERC
Other than Cavour 313 there is really nothing on Via Cavour. I have had fleeting curiosity about a joint called L'Archetto, just above the intersection with via Lanza, but not enough to drag my husband there to try it. In the neighborhood we go to La Piazzetta, Nerone, and very occasionally the pizzeria in via delle Carrette. Our pizzeria in via SS. Quattro, Li Rione, is better. There are a couple of places on the Monti side I'd like to try someday, but La Piazzetta is really all we need.

It may take a few days, but I'll have a look. I'm not aware of anyplace love-worthy right on via Cavour but would be glad to find one. Do I understand that it's right on via Cavour, on the right coming from the station, after Cavour Metro station and before the traffic light at via degli Annibaldi (on which you turn left for the Colosseum)? I don't know the Sitar, but there's an Indian restaurant on the left just before the steps to the church of S. Pietro in Vincoli (Moses of Michelangelo). That wouldn't be it? Come to think of it there's a newish place called, I think Borgia, right across from the steps, at the top of other steps. They look very tourist-trappy and solicit from the street, so I've always given it a wide berth, but it also looks sort of cute. Could that be it?
