Has anyone seen any fresh, wild morells around now that it's April? I haven't looked yet, but might explore the shops this weekend. Besides the Ferry Building, where would you look to find them.
I saw them at the Monterey Market last week but they wer very expensive. If I memember correctly $66 a pound
Far West Fungi in the Ferry Building had them for $45/lb. last weekend.
The morels at FWF are apparently coming from China right now. It'll be a month or more before they are anything close to local, and hopefully the price will come down a bit, too!
Have you tried the farmer's markets? The Saturday Berkeley market usually has them when they're in season.
Far West Fungi reports today that current prices for morells are very high. The season should really get under way in two or three weeks and prices should come down significantly. They were suggesting that serious morrell purchases should wait.
No wild mushrooms of any sort at the Berkeley market today.
Just bought some at CalMarket on Clement for $39 a pound.
