Theater District Late Lunch

Going to a Matinee on Sunday and need a late lunch, or post-matinee dinner in the area. Mid-range price is fine or cheaper, something GOOD. Most of the places I have visited in that area are glorified Applebee's. Any suggestions? We are pretty adventerous and love food!!

I enjoyed Scarlatto (250 W. 47th) after a Sunday matinee this winter. Delicious pumpkin ravioli in a butter sage sauce. Wonderful variety of desserts (including molten chocolate). Great bread basket and white bean dip for starters. Extremely reasonable prices ($10 pastas and $7 desserts). Also owned by Roberto Passon. See website www.scarlattonyc.com

I was also at Scarlotto recently and had an amazing post-theater meal. I can't remember exactly the type of veal that I ordered -- I think it was a veal shank with risotto- - but OMG, it was scrumptious! And there was so much of it, I took a nice sized doggie bag home and lovely every forkfull of it again. I wish I had room to have dessert. Next time :)

It would be helpful to know your cuisine preferences and what you consider "mid-price range" since people can differ substantially about what that means. That said, here are good three options with different cuisines:

West Bank Cafe, on 42nd St., b/t 9th & 10th Avs., serves delicious New American cuisine. Friendly, efficient service and very nice atmospherics.

Marseille, on the corner of 9th Av. & 44th St., serves excellent French/Mediterranean cuisine in an attractive, bustling brasserie setting.

Roberto Passon, on the corner of 9th Av. & 50th St., serves very good Italian food in a relatively small space with pleasant decor.

Enjoy the show and Bon Appetit!

How about Le Madeleine on 43rd, I think it is? I imagine it's pleasanter between meals, as you're planning, as it would be quieter and less crowded. I haven't been in a while, but I remember the food as good.
