What do you know about Murphy, NC?

In a few weeks, we'll be staying up near Murphy, in far western North Carolina.
Where is the good and the authentic food to be found in Cherokee County, NC and in nearby communities (NC, GA and TN)?
Thank you for your kindly response...

  1. The closest good food that I know of close to Murphy is Annie's Cafe for coffee and baked goods in Sylva NC. It's not very close, unfortunately. The food at Nantahala Outdoor Center is reliable, but not fantastic. (full disclosure: I haven't eaten there in a number of years)

If you drive down to Hiawasse Georgia, (much closer than Sylva) they have a pretty decent restaurant in the Brasstown Valley Resort. The Sat. night prime rib buffet was surprisingly good.

I hope someone else can help you a little more

    1. danna mentions Nantahala Outdoor Center, which I just finished writing a post about. Relia's Restaurant there is great (though I don't know about "authentic" - it's not Southern food), but delicious and carefully prepared. I would steer clear of the other dining option, though, at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, I think it's called Riverside Cafe or something - its pretty much bad grilled cheese and canned soup.
