What is the best liquor store in NYC and the boroughs for fine spirits. I am a regular at LeNell's in Red Hook and at Astor Wines & Spirits but I am looking for other places that have some of the more difficult to find items, especially gin and rum, as well as bourbon, single malts, and liqueurs. Thanks

Excellent thread--I live pretty near Astor and it's long been my go-to store for such things, but I'm hugely annoyed that they stopped carrying Tito's Handmade Vodka (IMHO the best US-produced vodka I've ever had and which rivals Ketel One, etc. but at a much lower price). I'd love to find another downtown store that carries it--it's kind of become by benchmark product for judging the quality of a liquor store's stock.

You should give Lenell's in Red Hook a try. It's a funky little place (complete with peeing cupid fountain), and she carries a lot of local spirits that other stores don't. They also have a database that keeps tabs on what you've bought, so when you go back, and you want to remember a bottle you bought that you liked, they can pull it up for you.

Crossroads on 14th Street near 6th Avenue usually carries Tito's vodka, and also has a great selection of single malts, including single malt IRISH whiskeys. I love Lenell's for bourbon - NOTE that they lost their lease and are not going to be around much longer ... :(

I believe they are just moving, possibly somewhere else in Red Hook, maybe to Manhattan. Unfortunate situation with the lease, no doubt, but LeNell's will still exist in the NYC area.
