Cider Donuts in April

I'm visiting Boston next week and was wondering if folks had recommendations for good places to get cider donuts. I worked in Gloucester a few years ago and used to go to Russell Farms, but they aren't opening for a few more weeks.

  1. I don't know of any local farms that sell cider donuts outside of apple picking time - but that doesn't mean it isn't done! I was at Wilson Farms in Lexington on Saturday and thought I saw someone munching what looked to be a cider donut - but I didn't ask (nor did I smell donuts being made, as they usually do outside). Could give them a call.

I've tried Wilson's cider donuts and they really aren't that good. Not even close to what you get at the apple farms. I'd skip them.

Good to know - thanks! I'm partial to Cider Hill Farm's cider donuts, myself. But any port in a storm....

    2. fresh cider isn't around this time, i'd be very surprised if you find them anyplace.

      1. Most of the farm stores open the first week of May. Cider Hill Farm in Amesbury opens May 4th and should have cider donuts going then. They might make it from frozen cider but I'm not sure if they had any cider left after last season it was selling so fast. I still have 2 gallons of cider in my freezer from this past fall....thanks for reminding me.

        1. Smolak Farms in N. Andover is open year 'round I think. They have cider donuts.

          1. Davidian Brothers in Northboro (The church street exit off 290) always has them. I like them a lot. They are smaller and very moist. They are within 1/4 mile from the highway. They also make pies, and apple dumplings, and have other stuff. It's a bit of a way out of Boston, but if you want cider donuts, they are there every day.
