Top Floor Dining

I was wondering if there were any other places similar to the restaurant Windows in downtown, something with such great views of the skyline.

I thought the view at Windows was amazing, however the food was very very plain.

Any suggestions?

  1. Encounter (at the airport)

Not top floor nor *top* food, but yamashiro has a great view.

I think I read that Encounter is closed for structural renovations. Check before you make the trip.

Encounter is closed and will be closed probably for a few months.
Yamashiro has a good view but the food is also not worth it

    2. Try WEST at the Hotel Angeleno.

      1. I think the food at The Penthouse atop the Huntley in Santa Monica is very good (although the service is a different story). It mostly faces the ocean, but it's still a very beautiful view.

Was just going to mention The Penthouse at the Huntley Hotel, based on several comments in the past few days. Not been, but definitely worth the view and drinks - maybe eat nearby around the 3rd St. Promenade, Jiraffe, Houston's, etc.

        2. There aren't enough Top Floor spots in LA. Remember L'Escoffier and Monty's?

The hotel that was the Holiday Inn in Brentwood has a restaurant on the top floor, but I've never eaten there. There's also The Regency Club in Westwood, but I think that's private.

          What about The Getty Restaurant?

          1. Per another thread. The view from the City Club on Bunker Hill in downtown LA is fabulous. 54th floor of the Wells Fargo tower. It's a private club.

              But how's the food?

              1. re: Pei

The food is Very Good. Which (in my internal rating system) is one step below Excellent. As an example, an Excellent restaurant for me is the Water Grill. Restaurants like Spago, Melisse and Providence are slightly higher than Excellent. As far as an overall restaurant experience goes, The City Club is on par or greater than Water Grill... service, view, etc, all Excellent. Note, they have a jackets required dress code.

            2. There is Ketchup in the Millennium Complex in WeHo and the Bonaventure Hotel has their steakhouse, Prime on the 34th floor with a great view of downtown LA.

Does the Bonaventure still have their revolving lounge right below the restaurant? I haven't been in many years, but THAT view rocked!!!

Yes that lounge/bar is still going. It is directly below Prime. Views from both are great.
