Has anyone tried Shirley Fong-Torres' walking/eating tours in Chinatown? Recommended? Any info appreciated. I am thinking of taking some out-of-towners on one of those and the Chinatown Ghost tour.... Thanks!

OK for tourists. Not so good if food is the main concern.

Took my family on it 2 years ago - it was fine, the tour is more about Shirley talking about herself than it is Chinatown or the food. We did have some good food, but if you are comfortable in Chinatown you could do just a well by yourself. It is very expensive for what you get.

Yimster led a Chowhound-affiliated walking tour of Stockton Street several months ago that was great fun and definitely about the food (how to pick greens, what happened to the live poultry stores, where the best deli-style roast duck can be had, all liberally laced with personal anecdote), ending with a banquet-style meal at a venerable hole in the wall. Perhaps you can persuade Lambert to come out of retirement and embark on a second career: Yimster Does Stockton St.

I believe that they have lots of different tours and if you want the food heavy one, you have to book the "I Can't Believe I Ate My Way Through Chinatown". The regular one has more history, this one is for foodies. I've taken both and been very happy on each occasion. Have fun!
