I need a good recipe for a Key Lime layer cake. I would like for it to be make from scratch unless the cake mix kind is great. All sugestions will be greatly appreciated.

Yes this is a key lime cake from scratch that i tried and it is delicious. The recipe is: 1 1/2 c. sugar, 2c. AP flour, 1/3 tsp salt, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 small box lime gelatin, 5 eggs, 1 1/3 cup Crisco oil, 3/4 cup real orange juice, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tsp lemon extract, and 1 tbsp lime juice,. Method: Mix eggs with sugar, then add lime gelatin, then oil mixture(including both extracts!), flour mixture( including salt, baking powder and soda!) then add orange and lime juice and pour in 4 pans and bake on 350 degrees to your like!!!

Perhaps you could bake MMRuth's key lime bundt cake in two round cake pans, adjusting the baking time. I would suggest consulting a web site or cookbook that lists the relative volume of different cake pans (I know the Joy of Cooking does) before proceeding, so you know whether to use 8" or 9" pans..

      Here's the recipe: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/278646

www.baking911.com has a specific page for cake pan measurements and substitutions:

Here's a good basic key lime layer cake recipe, skip the green food coloring:

Perhaps you could follow the CI recipe for the Ultimate Lemon Layer Cake & substitute key limes (keeping in mind that key limes are smaller)
