Red Rocket Coffee?

tomgrrrl Apr 5, 2007 03:50 AM

Does anyone have any info on the new (appropriately named) coffee shop opening on Queen East?

I know the owners (local residents) and they are planning for an opening this Saturday, April 14. The shop will serve coffee, espressos, lattes, tea, etc... as well as lunch items soups, salads, sandwiches all made on-site. This is the second venture for the owners they also started the M+G food line.

Went by this morning. It's a very nice spot.

Best latte I've had in a while. I know the owners as well (professional chefs) and they have made a fantastic spot for hanging out, complete with free wi-fi.

Does anyone know the address/intersection? Google turns up nothing. I'm a big coffee-shop fan; I'd love to check it out. Thanks!

It's at queen and vancouver ave, one street over from greenwood. try "1 vancouver ave toronto "into google maps. It's right across from the streetcar yard, "downstairs" in a commercial loft space.

We've been peering in the windows for a couple of weeks, they were open yesterday.

I would have gone in but alas, no stroller acccess. Hopefully they'll use the vacant ashphalt around the bulding as seating for some outside hanging out/dog and stroller parking. It's not officially the closest coffee shop to my house so i'm really hoping they can pull some great cappuccino's.

Was there today with a friend, and I have to say, so far it's nothing special. It's a smallish space with minimal decor: not a lot of atmosphere yet. Courteous service, decent coffee.

They're not yet serving food other than cookies, squares, and a couple of pastries. Very disappointing, because I'd hoped to try lunch. I'll give them another try once they get their menu up and running.

Agree - nothing special. Uncomfortable-looking metal chairs with only 2 comfy leather ones. Coffee is good, but not outstanding - no decaf choice. It seems geared to TTC drivers... they can't decide if they want to be Tim Horton's or the Mercury.

I disagree! The espresso was good. But the decor is gorgeous. All exposed brick walls and nice furniture. I actually found the chairs to be very comfy. My friend has made it his second office with their free wi-fi. Maybe I"m just happy that there's a nice cafe around the corner finally!

I was disappointed with the cappuccino i had there shortly after it opened. I was hoping for some microfoam with maybe some latte art attempt, but i got some spooned out previously steamed milk on top of some dull espresso.
The atmosphere is surprising comfortable considering the state the space was in before construction. They did a nice job with the blank slate of a basement loft they started with.
They recently added A/C. Their goodies looked tempting but I haven't been back to try again yet. But we're still happy to see them move into the neighbourhood. when it's too cold to go over to Mercury Espresso we'll probably explore red rocket some more.

I just visited Red Rocket for the first time today and I thought it was amazing! It was cozy and friendly, and I definitely felt welcome from the first moment I stepped in. I love how they kept the original windows and 'feel' to the place and it was super bright and felt like somewhere I could hang out with friends or sit and do some work. I tried the frozen hot chocolate which was to die for (I'm still thinking about it). Not as sickly sweet as Second Cups version...so much better!

I thought it was also great that you could choose any type of tea and they would brew and 'ice' it for a cool drink if that is what you prefer.

                  I'll definitely go back :-)

Was just at the Rocket today and I must say that the coffee is amazing! Strong but not overpowering and very smooth. Staff is nice and friendly, coffees are fresh-baked and delicious. Subtle decor and free wireless - all in all an amazing addition to the 'hood.
Love the vintage pics of the streetcars and buses!

was just there for a coffee on sunday, coffee and cookies were good and I also loved the atmosphere, my only complaint was that tables for four were occupied by students with their work all spread out all over them so there was no where for us to sit at all so we stood for a while and then crammed into a corner . But still, its a cute spot, probably best to go alone so you can sit down
