mitchell's or bi-rite creamery ice cream cake?
I'm in charge of getting a friend's bday cake and can't decide between a Mitchell's cake or one from BiRite Creamery. Never had either....any preferences out there? Any particular cake types/flavors recommended? If I go with Mitchell's should I get the ice cream "pie" or "cake"? Any other places I should consider?
Thanks!

Thanks for the responses. Went to BiRite Creamery to place my order for an ice cream cake and was so overwhelmed by their amazing ice cream flavors (and the outstanding samples) so I decided to go with cupcakes and a variety of pints of ice cream. I was a wee bit disappointed with the cupcakes, but the ice cream more than made up for it!!!!

re: Atomica
Atomica they do have cupcakes, I have not tried them but their toffee/chocolate cookies are to die for and they make a great brownie if you like your brownie dense and rich. Try the lemon ice cream too, I've only had lemon gelato or sorbet but their lemon ice cream is amazing.

re: Atomica
Bi-rite makes amazing chocolate cupcakes. I am addicted. They are available in the refridgerated case just pass the deli on the left in the grocery. The cake is moist, rich and deep devil's food, made with high quality chocolate and not too much sugar. The frosting is buttery/sour creamy; sweet, but not cloying given the cake. Try them and let me know what you think! Best part, they are kinda little so you can eat several.

Please see this recent thread on ice cream cakes with links to other previous threads.
Ice cream cakes have been covered rather thoroughly on the Chow board.

I've had Mitchell's cakes and pies (I can't recall the difference, I think the pies are better for a smaller group?) and they're really good in their category, much better than the ice cream cakes I grew up on. However, given the choice I'd probably opt for the untested BiRite Creamery cake because their ice cream is fantastic and pretty much everything they do they do well.
