Fine Dining in Key West

Is there such a thing? A coouple we know is going there for a celebration and we want to buy them a really nice dinner...like $200-ish. But where? They wouldn't like stuffy, but they do like fine food. Any suggestions?

I would recommend Louie's Backyard. We went there on NYE and had one of the most memorable meals ever. The setting is unbeatable. Huge deck right on the water.

I second Louie's. I think it is still the best in Key West. If I am not mistaken, it is where Norm VanAken got his start.

Louie's Backyard was the best place, we ate during our 5 day visit and we went out to many of the places listed above. I would suggest getting there as early as possible for dinner (at least when the sun is still up) because the views out back are beautiful.

The trick with Louie's is that you won't find many locals who eat there for dinner. Many feel its a tourist trap. They eat there for lunch. Service is not as rushed, prices are much better and the view is beautiful. Another secret is that during the day they serve lunch at the bar. If Lea is working, you are in for a treat. She is fun.

Fine Dining? How about B.O.'s Fish wagon? Far from stuffy.......and the food is very good.

Your description conjures up Ricky's Blue Heaven! Fine Dining - far from stuffy. 2 bills ought to work well. Beurre Blanc sauce on that Lobster wooooeeee! Funky, Fun and Fine all in one. Simply Sensational !!!

Pisces and Alice's are great. If you go to Pisces ask for Mark - he'll go a really good job and he's knowledgeable about wines. Pisces is also a tad more formal than Alice's. If you go to Alice's be sure to get the tropical shortcake for dessert - I never leave without that!
Louie's Backyard is nice too and you can sit outside.

I know this reply is a little late, but Hot Tin Roof in the Ocean Key Resort and Spa is great! My husband and I ate there about a year-and-a-half ago and had a fabulous meal. It's got a pretty, romantic setting on the water but not at all stuffy.

If I'm not mistaken, there is also a nice place at Sunset Pier - which would be super romantic in my opnion. I'm not sure just how expensive it is, but the view would be spectacular.

There is very little "stuffy" in Key West but if your friends appreciate good food, I am going to suggest Cafe Marquesa, Michael's and Prime 951. All three have a strong local following. Good luck!
