Greetings fellow hounds,

I've started working in downtown SF very recently, after what seems like a lifetime of being in Silicon Valley.

I am looking for recommendations for upscale lunch places - that I can visit during the week.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers !

Thanks David. Silks is a truly outstanding recommendation. Been here twice since this post, and absolutely loved it both times. My favourites include (seasonal)Espresso Creme Brule, Salmon Duo and the Seared Foie Gras.

I'd just like to report that the past two lunches at Town Hall that were pretty much the best meals I have had - in recent months.

Recommended :

Butter lettuce salad
Bacon wrapped trout
Fish and Chips (yes - close to the best I have had in the States)

I can't recall all of them right now, I'll update this post one of these days.

To me, Perbacco's strongest at salumi, braised meats, and side dishes.

The pastas are good and you won't find pansotti many other places, but they're not quite up there with Dopo, Incanto, La Ciccia, and Oliveto.

oh yes. the pork shoulder braised in milk was to die for... perfect with buttery savoy cabbage and creamy thick polenta.

i was disappointed by the sea scallop crudo with pomelo and pomegranate. the vinaigrette totally overpowered the delicate sweetness of the scallop. perhaps their other crudo fare better?

I agree 100%. I thought that the two pasta dishes I tried compared favorably to pastas at Oliveto, Incanto, and A16.

A few other financial district favorites:

Ozumo
Town Hall
Mexico DF

Not a huge fan of One Market.

One Market does a good job of getting you out if you need to be out by a certain time.
The food is consistently good. Excellent desserts. You have a choice of the main dining room, a more informal Lounge (same menu/service) and a fun place to eat if you are just one or two people would be the CHEF'S COUNTER. This is recommended in the ZAGAT's guide if you like to watch the cooks and the Chef Mark Dommen in action.
