Outdoor patio for b-day dinner party

I'm looking for a restaurant that has a nice outdoor patio for a large group of people (12 people or so). I don't want a place that is too loud and crazy. Somewhere with a fun but sophisticated atmosphere and of course, great food. Location-wise, it could be in Silverlake, Hollywood, Bev. Hills, Santa Monica, Venice... Any recs. are much appreciated.

Not sure if I'd call it "fun" though. It's really nice. Definitely not a loud place.

my birthday dinner was at dominick's last year. they have a great outdoor patio that may be along the lines of what you're looking for: fun and a step up from casual but not crazy. we went for the $15 sunday supper and were a bit disappointed with the size of the portions (when they put the bowls of risotto down in front of us, we were all excited ... until they told us each bowl was meant for two people!). but i guess you get what you pay for. their regular menu might be better though.

I do too. The shortribs are excellent. However, their wines are pretty pricey so I'm a little worried that it could be pretty expensive.

Cliff's Edge in Silverlake has a magical outdoor patio. Really good drinks. Great setting. And decent food--if you stick to the "basics."

Four more options: Chez Mimi (26th near San Vicente in Brentwood), Il Moro (Purdue near Olympic in WLA), Lucques (Melrose near La Cienega), Michael's (3rd near Wilshire in SM).

I don't know if you want to go to Woodland Hills, but we really like Villa Piacere. The patio is really pretty and the food is good, too.

Little Door (West Hollywood ish) -- solid, fresh food, gorgeous Euro-Morrocan patio, good bar, beautiful atmosphere. Buffalo Club (Santa Monica-ish) has a more expansive patio, sophisticated and festive atmopshere with Chinese laterns and live bands performing sometimes. Neither place is breaking the mold cuisine-wise but definitely solidly good, highish-end eats.

How about Orso on 3rd Street or Pan e Vino on Beverly? Both have outdoor patio's I think fit your needs.
