Crueller Donuts

shelley5 Apr 2, 2007 04:03 PM

I've only seen these in southern CA. Cruellers are also known as French donuts. They are circle shaped but twisty. They should are soft inside and not heavily fried.

My favorite has strawberry frosting---any hope of finding these in NYC?

I have seen such a donut in Upstate NY as well (very light , almost airy). There is also a long donut called a twist or krueller.

If you can find a Tim Horton's ( the great Canadian Donut shop) (they are in NY state.. not sure of NYC) you will find the crueller of your dreams!

While I've never seen one that's strawberry frosted, they have French style cruellers at every Dunkin Donuts. Hope you find one!!

The DD ones are too fried for my taste. Hmm, according to their website, there's no Tim Horton's nearby but I think I saw one in Connecticut once. The search goes on. . .

Ditto that. Also check your local morning coffee cart.

I, too, like French cruellers. I'm partial to the ones with white icing. I've seen them with chocolate icing but not with strawberry. They are regularly available at a local bakery near our house in NJ, as well as in one supermarket bakery dept.

I've never looked for them in NYC, but using the Find-a-Food search function on Menupages.com, I found one place in Manhattan that sells them: http://www.menupages.com/restaurantde...

Also, when I tried Googling, a place in Brooklyn called Dee Dee's Donuts came up, but the info dates back to 2005, and I don't know if they're still in business.

They do have french crullers at Alpha Donuts on Queens Blvd in Sunnyside, at the 46th Street stop of the #7 train. I love French crullers but I wouldn't say these are the #1 specialty here.

Amazing donut place on intersection of 14th street and 7th avenue has a very wide selection of fresh donuts all day long. Called the Donut Pub. They have a great really eggy french crueller that is round but they also have the long ones. I think they also have chocolate cruellers. They often run out the french crueller it is so popular. It has a nice crust of sugar all round and is very sweet!
