Scones - stovetop recipe?

I have no oven, but I must make scones. How can I do this with just a stovetop or gas grill?
Any suggestions out there? I am have seen a few recipes online that involve cast iron skillets, cast iron scone and muffin pans... do you have a recipe or notes of caution for me?

I've made these Welsh Cakes before:

They aren't exactly scones, but they taste good and are tender, and you can make them on the stove with a griddle. They freeze nicely, too, so I like to take a couple out for a quick morning breakfast.
