There's a small story about this in one of the free metro papers... is it true? Is the Canary really closed?
It's always sad to lose a piece of history, especially a family business like this. But they had a great run. The reality is that the Canary has primarily been a movie set for many years now. Although I often pass within a block of the Canary, I can't remember the last time I actually stopped to eat there. There was never anything special about their food. I remember the days when most reasonably priced Toronto restaurants served the Canary's menu - the days when Fran's was considered one of the best restaurants in town. I don't miss those days. But I DO wish the owners well.
