Most Mexicans are reliable and most will work... hard at that. But in regards to Mexican food... the best in Hemet is Los Vaquero's http://losvaquerosrestaurant.com/. I've never had a bad meal, drinks are good, salsa is the best. If you want a quick bite and you don't care about atmosphere, then Los Altos market has a food counter that serves hot food and seafood. I shop there at the market quite a bit.
Dollar for Dollar steak would have to be Steer & Stein. Order the Super Stock Yard and order it the way you like it. It comes on a sizzling plate and I get mine med-rare just perfect. The sides aren't all that but decent. The steak is better and less expensive then the plank steak @ RJ's in Muretta.
Pizza- would have to be Milanos Bros (ggod pasta as well). Also Chicago Pizza is new and they make a mean deep dish.
Burgers/sandwiches- Farmer Boys
Asian- Sushi (all u can eat) Suahi Ray.
Asian- General East Hemet off of Florida South side next to a Tax place & a fish/sailor resturant (I've bee meaning to try).Hope this isn't to late to help.

re: NVER2FST
It certainly does help. Thank you. I recently spend a week in Hemet. I ate at Sushi Samurai (I had eaten here before, chirashi and it was quite good) this time it was not good. I also ate at Spicy Sushi & Grill with an address on Florida but it is actually around the corner. This was MUCH better than Samurai. I heard sushi Ray was good but right now it is AYCE sushi, and I find that a little frightening.

L_C, I made a pilgrimage to Hemet a few months ago because M F K Fisher, the brilliant culinary writer and gourmand, lived there and wrote about it. When we were starved for lunch, we ended up in the little "downtown" of Hemet (near that tiny hamburger stand) and stopped in a beautiful panaderia to ask for suggestions. (The panaderia was outstanding!) They directed us to a Taco Stand in a strip mall that was terrific-- sorry I can't remember its name.
We also had gelati (!) at a place on the main drag-- that was terrific. As good as our fave in Little Italy, San Diego. I felt like M F K F was smiling on us. Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but if the panaderia is still there, stop by.

Her best work was written there. The love of her life killed himself there, outside their hilltop home. We read for clues and tried to locate where the house was. Found a spot, but not sure it was the right one. But it gave us a feel for why she loved the place. We also learned that Hemet was a garden spot-- tons of orchards and truck farms and a weekend destination for LA. Hard to imagine now, isn't it.
