Does anyone know of a place close to Willits or Ukiah that sells something better then the garbage at Safeway..I've never been able to find a local butcher..

Try the Forks Market, on State St. north of Ukiah.

A bit further is my favorite, the Lakeview Market in Lucerne. Its a bit of a drive, but the meat is better than Safeway meat by a long shot.

Lakeview Market is the best one around. It's about 30 minutes from Ukiah, and worth the trip. It's got a real butcher and they have great service.

The website www.eatwild.com lists a number of small, California grass-fed meat producers, many of whom are on the North Coast. Perhaps if you contact sopme of them, they can sell direct and/or advise you about where their products are available.

If you can spring for a quarter steer,
        Magruder Ranch

Please see this post from a few years ago. Don't know if the info is current:

You may also want to go to the California (not Bay Area) board and type
Mendocino meat (or Willits or Ukiah)as your search terms. A few things
came up when I did that. I also used Google and more things turned up.
          Good luck and have fun.
