Good Breakfast Place Midtown?

We live in Philadelphia but get up to NYC several times a year; we almost always stay
midtown (bet. 44th and 56th); after all these years, we have yet to discover or come
across the perfect little breakfast spot. We don't want another hotel restaurant or
coffee shop - ideas, please? thanks

  1. Amy's Bread, on 9th Av., b/t 46th & 47th Sts., serves continental-style breakfast. Not a very big place. Sales counter in front and a few tables in the rear area.

Pigalle is a French brasserie, on 8th Av., near 48th St. - http://www.pigallenyc.com

    Brasserie is on 53rd St., b/t Park & Lex. - http://www.rapatina.com/brasserie/

Rock Center Cafe is on the side of the skating rink. I'm not sure, but they may have outdoor tables during warm weather months.

Pershing Square, on 42nd St., b/t Park & Lex.

There are diners, but maybe you lump those in with coffee shops?

    1. Although inside a hotel, the Le Parker Meridien, "Norma's" is wonderful, and nothing like "another hotel restaurant"...Check it out

Ditto that! A fabulously unique breakfast experience!

      2. Michael's on 55th between 5th & 6th serves an excellent breakfast. I love the goat cheese omlette (as late '80's/early 90's as that might be) and the brioche French toast is so good.

Off topic, but honestly the reason it's hard to find the perfect spot in midtown is the same reason that New Yorkers have a hard time finding anything in midtown. There isn't much, unfortunately. If you're willing to travel, and you're here for the weekend or on a Friday, New Leaf Cafe in Fort Tryon Park serves an excellent breakfast in a gorgeous setting. Stay way away from them for dinner, but breakfast is an event worth the trek.

        1. A favorite place of mine for cappuccino - and Italian pastries/breakfast pannini - is Bottega del Vino - 59th just east of Fifth Ave.The coffee really is fantastic.
