Jonesin' for a red-chile pork tamale in Albuquerque
It's possible my memory might be playing tricks on me, but I think I had a combination plate that had an enchilada, a taco, and a tamale from Mary & Tito's. Or maybe added a tamale from the ala carte section of the menu. I only make it to Albuquerque once or twice a year and try to order a cheese enchilada and tamale my first visit to a NM restaurant--3 of the 4 places I went that trip were first timers including M&T's, so I could be misremembering. My most vivid memory of M&T's is the excellent red chile. I've only been there once, but I'm sure I'll be back.
Guess I need to get to El Modelo sometime, too.
My favorite tamale in Albuquerque is from Los Cuates.
Also good are Dos Amigos, Padilla's, Mary & Tito's(best red chile I've had in Albuquerque), Perea's, and Sadie's.
Fair to poor are Casa de Benavidez, El Charritos, and Ortega's(worst).
That's just rating the tamales. Probably have had tamales from other places, but they must not have made much of an impression good or bad 'cause I can't remember them.
