Iberico chorizo- in search of

  • 7

I'm looking for a place where I can buy Spanish Iberico chorizo or anything Iberico actually. It's so much more incredible savory meatiness than anything else but I've only been able to find it online at Latienda.com. I've searched out Spanish markets but even La Espanola doesn't carry it.

  1. You could call the Black Sheep Bistro's Market, but the chances are they don't carry it either. You could ask them to order some in for you and see what they say:

In your search for some great sausages, you could visit J & T Gourmet. They are basically Polish, but they make their own and they're quite good. If you tell them what you like they might have one or two that's pretty close to what your seeking.

If you are looking for sausages, I recommend European Deluxe Sausage Kitchen on Olympic near Doheny Dr. They have an excellent selection of sausages that they make daily in European and South African styles. I like the spicy chicken sausage. They also have some other interesting imported products.

I think certain of the Spanish meats are technically illegal to import, which may account for your difficulty in finding Iberico.

        Yep,

I think that La Tienda has been able to make a special deal to import. I have been happy with the products that I have purchased from them in the past. A little expensive, but the only place that I have found to sell certain things.

    2. El Espanola Meats in Harbor City is supposed to be Spanish through and through. I've never been but one of my wife's friends whose roots run deep in Spain via El Salvador says that this is the only So Cal place she has been that has so much from Spain to offer.

La Espanola does not carry anything Iberico unfortunately but it is a great place for Spanish goods. However, since posting, I've found that Malibu Kitchen does carry it but alas, they were out of it yesterday when I was up in the area.

        Thanks all for your suggestions.

El Espanola is astonishing for the variety of Spanish products they have crammed into their small space. Their Chorizo Blanco and Soria Sausage are particularly good, especially for various starters. It's the only place where I've been able to buy a whole Serrano ham. They usually have a platter of samples that tempt us into impulse buying. A few times we've seen them loading their van for a catering event with Paella in 5 foot diameter pans. Highly recommended.

The blogger, Triplecreme, currently has a quick review with pics on her blogsite. She mentioned that El Espanola offers paella on weekends, but it must be preordered/reserved. Might this potentially be the best paella in SoCal? I would imagine that they would at least have all the workings in place to be at the top. I hope some posters get a chance to try it and give us a review...
