In the mood for Mexican & margies on the Westside tonight...where to go?
Hey Hounds,
My BF and I are hankering for good (read: real) margaritas AND good mexican food. Not necessarily Oaxacan tonight...just good carne asada and cheesy enchiladas.
We live in the Marina (right by Baja) and don't want to go to Baja, but we don't want to drive far either. Feeling lazy. Pls. help...must go soon.
Thanks!

re: Emme
This place to me has more the feel of a bar that is set up like a restaurant... I remember back about five years ago having what was supposed to be an early dinner with my boss back then. We ordered a couple of combo plates and requisite margaritas. The drinks came first of course, along with chips and salsa. The first one always goes so quickly... then another and another along with our meals... by 10PM we were pretty well toasted and in need of a ride home. I truly can't even remember what the food was like, but I do remember getting really comfortable sitting back in one of their boothes with their margaritas lubricating the conversation...

I second hrhboo's rec as Paco's have been a long-time Westside fav for good "Mexican" food, sweet-natured tortilla ladies pressing out fresh tortillas and flowing streams of margaritas. I can't vouch for the current quality or authenticity as I haven't eaten there in probably five years, but the lines are consistantly long out front.
Another long-time Westside "Mexican" restaurant with a rep for Margaritas is La Cabana on Rose Ave, just west of Lincoln in Venice. Be prepared as it it very dark in there. They are also known for their late hours, which is very rare in the Westside.
I don't know what level of authenticity you expect for Mexican cuisine (including margaritas, as the real thing doesn't resemble colored liquored-up kids' drinks), as some may feel that these two places have been dumbed-down somewhat, but they will do if you just want to get some decent food and something icey to sip down for a while...
