Memories of Japan

My 2 boys want some teppanyaki tomorrow night and I don't want to spend an arm and a leg. I heard this place was reasonable but I've gotten mixed reviews. Any thoughts? The food doesn't have to sublime, but solid, tasty food would be requisite. Thanks!

  1. Have not been there recently. But price has always been good and teppanyaki is hard to mess up. Lots to choose from. Teppanyaki or regular menu.

    1. Horrible. Since you're already in the area, drive a bit north on Don Mills and go to Tako Sushi instead. Much better teppanyaki.

Memories has gone downhill over the last few years. Quality has gone down, portion sizes have gone down (the steaks are approaching Philly Cheesesteak thickness), but prices have gone up. Tako up the street has added teppanyaki tables and puts out much better food at a similar price.

If you want really good teppanyaki, go to Akasaka in Richmond Hill. But Tako will do if you're looking for value.

A Taste of Japan Restaurant at Woodbine & John, right next to Le Biftheque in Markham, has like 4 large teppanyaki tables that create a more interesting and fun atmosphere.

If you do venture to taste of japan, make sure you get the Kani Salad. AMAZING.

I have to agree with TexSquared. It used to be ok a very long time ago, but has gone downhill in the last several years. I've been there quite a few times (only because co-workers, friends etc. wanted to go), but I really don't like the place at all and find the service and food is not worth your money (just my opinion).

        3. I have had good dinners at Taste of Japan and find the prices resonable. The chefs are entertaining and if you are ever in the mood to splurge they have nice selection of maki and sushi/sashimi.
