Bacon in Buffalo
I'm looking for a place to buy Niman Ranch Bacon (or bacon of similar high quality) in the Buffalo, NY area. I've already checked the Lexington Street Co-op and 3 of the Wegman's, but no luck so far. Any advice?

I was able to find it at Tops once - the one in Amherst on Maple. I picked it up because it was highly recommended by Cook's Illustrated but I wasn't that impressed. Although I love Wegmans I find they rarely have a varied selection of brands - typically it's their brand and one other. So for bacon that basically leaves you with Wegmans or Oscar Meyer.

Try Spar's on Amherst Street (just past the Wegman's, towards Grant St). I'm unfamiliar with the Niman Ranch brand, but Spar's is an incredible independent sausage shop (mostly German / East European), and they smoke their own slab bacon, which is to die for. I hear that people travel from as far as PA to shop there.

Have you asked at the Globe Market on Elmwood? A long shot maybe, but they do sell a small assortment of cheese, bread, etc.

re: foodie_expat
I am in the retail business, and I know from experience that manufacturer's websites that list "where you can find a product" are usually wrong. The most likely culprit is that Wegmans, at one time or another, once sold SOMETHING that Niman offered, not necessarily the item in question. It is very difficult for manufacturers and distributors to keep their website updated every time a retailer adds or drops an item from stock. Always call ahead to verify something you've learned on a website.
