According to a posting on the Carroll Gardens Neighborhood Association listserv, "The market is scheduled to begin July 8th on Carroll Street from the PS58 entrance to Smith Street."

It's unfortunate that they are startng soo late - we are going to miss out on a lot of summers produce if they indeed start in July. But I guess its better than what we have now.

Just wondering if anyone has heard any news/updates about this. I am really hoping it happens, it would be great for the neighborhood.

In the Dining Section of the NY Times today, it says the Greenmarket comes to Carroll Gardens this coming Sunday, July 8th.

We went by yesterday at around 2:30. There was a flower/plant stand, Bread Alone, and 2 or 3 veggie stands. No fruit. We didn't pick anything up bc we had gone to borough hall on Sat. It was the standard fare for this time of year - lots of greens & beets. A fruit stand seems crucial for people to be able to do all their produce shopping in one trip.

I went by in the morning, and bought some greens, some pastries from Bread Alone, and a container of blueberries. Maybe they ran out of berries by 2:30? At this point, the market is pretty small; the stands barely fill half a block. The stand closest to Smith street had an amazing selection of greens and beets though. It's a nice option for shopping in the neighborhood.

When I went, a woman who seemed to be in charge said that there will be "lots more" stands open next week.

First weekend was pretty sad. Not much to buy, not terribly cheap, lots of wilting produce because of the heat. But I did see Marty Markowitz taking advantage of a photo op!
