I'm having a tough time finding some simple sherry glasses, the type called "copitas" in Spain. In addition to sherry, they're popular for sipping whisky and brandy. I've attached a picture to illustrate the type.

I found a decent version in Libbey's "Bristol Valley" line, but I can't find a vendor who will sell me fewer than a case (24) of them at a time. Ideally, I don't really want to spend more than $4 per glass--I'm looking for something I can throw in the dishwasher and shrug when a guest breaks one.

I've looked at all the usual shops here in New York, i.e. Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Sur La Table, etc. as well as online shops like wineenthusiast.com. LaTienda.com has some, but only with a La Gitana logo on it, unfortunately. Wineglasses.co.uk has something that might be good, but they only show a line drawing of the glass so I'm wary.

Anyone have any suggestions? Anything in New York City or online would work for me. Thanks!

These Oneida - Daniela - Sherry, (4 Oz.) seem to be within your price range: $82.68 for a case of 24, or $3.45 ea.

Yeah, those are like the Libby Bristol Valley ones--they'd be perfect if I could get 4-6 at a time, instead of 24. Or maybe I can find 3 more sherry drinkers and split a case.

Just plan on doing a Sherry tasting and get the case! Gotta' be a restaurant supply store near you, that would split a case.

Another place to try would be The Brown Derby in St Louis. I do not have a URL handy, but they often offer the best prices on Riedel. Also, now that Riedel has purchased Speiglau, you might find a lower-end copita in the Speiglau line. In the pre-Riedel days, good glasses at less than Riedel prices.

I found an even better version in the Royal Leerdam Bouquet sherry glass. Unfortunately it seems I still have to buy a case of 24, but otherwise it's exactly what I'm looking for.

I have a few w/ the Cockburn's (Port) logo on them. They are by Luminarc, FR. There is not other info on the glasses. Other than the copitas from tastings, all of mine are Villare & Bosch (wish they still made these, as I need to replace 2 broken ones to fill out my 24) and Riedel Vinum (a bit larger that the V&Bs and slightly thicker glass). I'm surprised that Crate & Barrel did not have what you were looking for, as they have several lines of less expensive wine glasses.

In your search, you might want to also try "Port glasses."

The closest thing C&B carries is their "sipping glass":
http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=174&f=818&viewall=1

It's not bad (I have a couple), but I'm just looking for a few classic copitas. In my experience, port glasses tend to look more like small tulip shaped glasses, but I'll look around, thanks for the suggestion. There are lots of restaurant supply stores on Bowery, I'll give that a try too.

As for the Riedel sherry glasses, the ones I've seen (in their Sommelier line) are not quite the copita shape, plus they cost $20+ per glass which doesn't really work for me.

I have copitas from two Riedel lines, the V&Bs, plus a dozen from various tasting events. None has a "tulip" shape to them. Check out the Riedel Web site and look at the Vinum Port stems. I think that this is the exact shape that you are seeking.

I have looked at the Riedel ones quite a bit, I think this is the one you're referring to:
http://www.wineenthusiast.com/E/details.asp?Ep=An/353+4294966715//A/4109&

It's a nice-looking glass, but unfortunately it is not exactly the copita shape I'm looking for (with a shorter stem and rounded bowl, as pictured in my original post) and as I said before I just can't bring myself to pay those prices. But thanks for your suggestion!

I don't know if they actually sell glassware in the store, but the staff at Tinto Fino on 1st Ave in the E. Village should at the very least know where to get it. You should drop by and ask. They also have a great selection of sherry to fill your new glasses.

In case anyone else is interested in this style of glass, I finally found a pretty good approximation in the INAO standard wine tasting glass. Arc International/Luminarc makes an inexpensive, dishwasher-safe version they call "Viticole" in varying sizes. The smallest is a 4 oz sherry glass, though I actually bought the next size up (the 7.25 oz) because it's more versatile. I don't mind a slightly larger sherry glass, and this size is better for other wines and spirits. They cost me $3 each (+s/h).
