Caribbean in Harlem

Anyone know any good ones?

I'm not far from People's Choice Kitchen on Frederick Douglas and Auntie's on 146th.

  1. Fatman's Caribbean, 145 between Amsterdam and B'way, small place, really good food. On my one visit I had good jerk and sides.

    1. PC is good but they seem to be going downhill lately AND their prices are going up. There is a pretty good place on Amsterdam near 145th also (across from Candyland).

People's Choice was very disappointing. I liked the spice mix on the around the jerk chicken, but it couldn't have been drier. The same goes for the sliced fish - dry and boney.

The beans and rice weren't bad.

        I'll try Fatman's next.

Hmmm must have been an off day. I typically get the oxtails and they are usually on point. The chicken dishes tend to be tough. The best jerk chicken I've had came out of the Bronx. I found PCs jerk pretty good though when I tried it. I don't like their stew chicken at all.

The dishes I've tried at People's Choice have been regularly mediocre--not bad, but not great either. Fatman's seems to simply cook better to me. I have not had Fatman's jerk yet though. I find Jerk to be be better in the BX were they break out the oil drum and BBQ for real. I've never had real jerk in Manhattan. I can make oven-made jerk in my at home otherwise...
