  1. Haven't been yet, but people around here [Chowhound] have said good things about Short Sugars: http://www.ncbbqsociety.com/trail_pag...

Short Sugar's is one of the great Piedmont barbecue joints, along with Lexington #1 and Red Bridges in Shelby. If you stop at Short Sugar's, you won't be disappointed.

Yes, Short Sugar's is fantastic. But the one in Reidsville is the place to go to. The one in Danville isn't as good, in my opinion.

Just to clarify, the links I included above are to the Reidsville location (it's just a hop-skip-and-jump off of 29, a little ways south of Danville), so y'all should be good-to-go!

If you are an experienced barbecue eater and want to try something different besides a regular plate or sandwich: At Short Sugar's I recommend ordering the Barbecue Salad. It's only around 3-4 dollars, and is a large garden salad (iceberg variety) with barbecue spread on top. Its like a chef salad, with barbecue replacing the ham. The first time I went to Short Sugar's I looked around and EVERYONE seemed to be eating the 'cue salad. This WAS at the height of the low carb madness but it was still weird. I decided to follow suit and wasn't disappointed.
