Need opinions on Dayton, OH restaurants

Hi hounds, I need your valuable opinions on these restaurants.
Carver's, Buckhorn Tavern, Oakwood Club, Old Hickory BBQ.
My BIL is in town at school, and I'm taking him out on wed 3/28 for dinner. I have the addresses and phones for all these places, but I need to know what you think of the food (duh!) and if they serve wine/beer/booze. Thanks a million!

It's been a while since I've been to the Oakwood Club but it seemed all right. Nothing special, rather spendy. Wasn't terribly impressed by Old Hickory BBQ, my ribs were quite dry and chewy. Dayton is not a great place for BBQ, but there are better options-- City BBQ in Centerville, for example.

City BBQ gets criticized on this board for being "too corporate" but the Centerville location has really excellent smoked pork and brisket, and they serve beer. However, the places the original poster listed are "sit down" restaurants and City Barbeque is definitely at the highly informal end of the dining spectrum (paper towels at the tables instead of napkins.)

I have been to the Buckhorn Tavern a few times. It's a unique, casual place in a rustic setting and has great food (yes, they serve cocktails, I recall having martinis there.) It would not be a mistake to go there. I have never been to the other places you listed.

You didn't mention it but a favorite of mine in the moderate price range is Sweeney's Seafood House in Centerville.

Probably too late, and I am not from Dayton, so I don't know much, but when I go to Dayton, we always hit the Oregon District. The area is up and down, but I have always had good food, and there are plenty of bars.

I had dinner at the Cafe' Boulevard for more upscale food {www.cafeboulevard.com), but like the atmosphere at the Dublin Pub (http://www.dubpub.com/ourstory.htm).

Again, I am not from Dayton, so others may have better choices.

I hope you enjoy your stay!!
