I'll be stuck in South Florida on Friday night with an overnight layover. I'm flying in and out of MIA, but will rent a car so location won't be an issue. Anywhere in Dade or Broward would work just fine. I'm looking for suggestions for a place suitable for one to have some dinner alone, preferably at the bar. Thanks for your consideration.
Can probably come up w/ many suggestions depending on what kind of food you like, budget, where you're staying, etc. Any hints?
If you're coming in and out of MIA you may want to focus on Coral Gables which is close to the airport. Ortanique (on Miracle Mile), which is one of my favorite local restaurants (Nuevo-Caribbean food, high-end food but a fairly casual feel to the restaurant) has a nice bar where they serve the full menu. There's also a pretty good sushi place called Su Shin Izakaya (on Aragon one block off Miracle Mile).
If you want to head over to the Beach, Talula is my favorite and has a small kitchen bar. Emeril's also has a nice bar to eat at.
More out of the way (from the airport, at least), one of my favorite local restaurants is Timo in Sunny Isles (just north of 163rd St. on Collins Ave.), where there's a nice bar area where they serve the full menu. Also sort of around the same area (near 163rd St. but mainland side instead of beach side, on Dixie Highway just west of US1) is a fantastic Japanese place, Yakko San. They do Japanese "tapas" with a huge variety of stuff, lots of fresh seafood including sashimi, but no sushi.
