You already may know of it, but recently we discovered a trove of freshly frozen foods out on Old Kingston Rd.in Ajax. It's MacMillan Orchards, where we stocked up on what they called "Macpancakes" - two small pancakes surrounding a layer each of egg and sausage, a handy microwavable breakfast. We also loaded up on mildly curried chicken, bacon/cheese perogies, etc. And fruit, of course - two enormous plastic display apples sit on each side of the building in the parking lot. It's at 733 Kingston Rd. E, a block or two east of Salem Rd., and according to their website there's another location in Acton. (BTW We're just customers and have nothing to do with the business.)

MacMillans started out doing flash frozen fresh fruits and vegetables and just recently diversified into prepared foods. They are the folks that do the scoop and bake cookie and muffin batters that are often used as fundraisers for schools, groups and teams. If you're going to their location in Ajax, their frozen yogourt is phenomenal and they have a decent selection of locally produced foods, including maple syrup and cheeses...my family has been shopping there for years.

I had no idea there was a location in Ajax, but I remember buying stuff for fundraisers, delicious cookies and stuff. Didn't know they'd diversified into other foods.

It always amazes me to see people come across "finds" that I've taken for granted for years. We've shopped at MacMillans for ages, and I suppose I've just grown to view it as a given. But you're absolutely right; they're a gem.

Tons of great suggestions already, but I'll add that their frozen soups and stocks are of extremely high quality. They also sell delicious perogies.

I'm glad you've discovered it, because it'll certainly contribute positively to your life of Chow.
