Best delivery around Davis Sq?

smileback Mar 25, 2007 03:43 PM

I am looking for some form of good delivery around Davis Sq. I am not really picky, I like everything from Indian to pizza, but I am on a limited budget!

Your best bet is to use foodler.com - the website is excellent and lets you order online from any restaurants that deliver *to your specific address* and they act as the middle-man. There's no markup with this service like there is with diningin.com.

Anyway, regarding Davis Sq, my favorite delivery options would be:
BBQ - Redbones (they deliver on a bicycle!)
Indian - I prefer Indian Club in Porter Sq but I think I recently heard that they closed.
Chinese / Thai - Thai and Mandarin Kitchen on Mass Ave
Thai / Japanese - Spice and Rice
Pizza - Theo's in Teele Sq, or for Sicilian style, Marco's on Mass Ave.

Is Thai and Mandarin Kitchen really gotten any better since the name change? Thai Kitchen was so abysmal I vowed to never eat there again.

Well, I'd say that it's delivery-quality as opposed to sit-down quality, but it's one of the best delivery options in the area. For Chinese I prefer Zoe's but they aren't open for lunch hours.

Yep, Indian Club closed and is being replaced with Addis Red Sea (Ethiopian). There's still Passage to India, though, which is my favorite for Indian delivery in the Porter-Davis area; their Foodler addy is: http://www.foodler.com/MA/Cambridge/I... .

P.S. One more - Hana Sushi on Mass Ave delivers sushi and it's excellent.

There was a thread from last summer(?) on delivery in the Ville for someone on bedrest, I couldn't find it, but i swear it's here somewhere.

That was me. Now they (twins) are 3 months old and at dinner time I can really only eat things with one hand: sandwiches, burritos, etc. Checked out Mr Crepe for the 1st time since their reopening -- tasty and fresh ingredients but a little pricey for what it is... I do a fair amount of delivery from Wang's and Pini's for pizza. Does anyone know if City Slickers will deliver to Medford Hillside. I was psyched to find Rich again and enjoyed my old favorite grilled chicken pasta last week. Now I have that shrimp & bacon pizza on my mind!

This thread from late last year should give you a number of good options:

          Personal faves I'll underscore:

East Asia for excellent, veggie-heavy, rather yuppified Chinese
Paddock for very good Regina-style pizza
          Sei Bar for inventive sushi

            Qindao Garden!

Or for Szechuan, Zoe's also delivers around here.

Already contributed to the other thread, but here's a quick update:

India Palace - solid Indian that actually delivers (Namaskar will not)
East Asia - veggie-heavy Americanized thai and chinese. Has fallen out of favor with me now that they no longer offer their Thai Sticks
Davis Square Pizza - snuck some of a friend's order Saturday afternoon - good Greek-style pizza with crazy amounts of toppings
Sei Bar - don't love their sushi and think it's pretty expensive for what you get. Also, not so big on ordering in sushi for some reason.
Szechuan Bay - new comer to the area offering solid szechuan choices

Our standards, some of which have already been mentioned:

Indian - We often pick-up at Namaskar, who don't deliver, but Kebab Factory will deliver to Davis Square and they're mighty tasty.

Chinese - Qindao Garden or East Asia

Pizza - The ghost of Urban Gourmet (a moment of silence please) lives on at City Slickers, and they deliver to Davis. This is probably your cheapest option
