Atlanta this weekend for final 4
Hi, we'll be staying downtown at the Ritz and will not be driving. Do you have any suggestions for good, simple food and a lack of lines? We love all food but would especially like biscuits, fried chicken and all that other good stuff that we don't get on the west coast. I'm pretty sure that we'll be hanging only in the downtown area...and I've read pretty grim things chowwise on this board about downtown options...but, maybe you can guide me toward the best of the area. Nothing too fancy or formal please. Thanks so much in advance! Can't wait for my first trip to Atlanta.

I would pass on Two Urban Licks for food--It has a cool atmosphere but, over-hyped in terms of the menu...Rathbuns & MF sushi are great--
Sounds like you are in the mood to just have some good southern-style food- IMHO, the best downtown (midtown) casual fried chicken/ biscuits/ collards you can find is at mary macs: http://www.marymacs.com/Menu/tabid/54/Default.aspx
If you want to do more upscale than mary mac's, You could try South City Kitchen
http://southcitykitchen.com/midtown/child/menus/menus.htm
But, keep in mind that it will probably be a little crazy around crecent st. for the final 4
If its nice outside, you may want to hit up park tavern for a drink and some appetizers--not so much for the food, but the view of the park and the city view ( i think they are doing an oyster/crawfish festival that weekend) http://tavern.parktavern.com/ -
I attended UCLA and am rooting for the Bruins to go all the way! On food, we were in CA last week and I cannot say that anyplace in Atlanta rivals the best either LA or SD have to offer. Two Urban Licks has a funky feel to it and I really like their bartender, but the food in the main dining area hasn't lived up to expectations. Rathbun's, however, is just terrific. I was back there Thursday for the fourth time this year and am hooked.

I am from LA but one of my best friends lives in the ATL and here are my four favorite joints:
1. Magic Fingers Sushi or MF Sushi. Dumb name but the best I've had including LA. Its midtown and make sure to order the Lobster Tempura app.
2. Two Urban Licks
3. Rathburns
4. Miss Anne's Snack shop - it’s a tiny hamburger stand and make sure to order the Ghetto Burger if you make it there.Have fun. It's a great town.
