Cafe Michi - Change of ownership!!

Had dinner there last evening. Sushi still great. However, I was told by the sushi chef Jack, that, effective 31st March, the restaurant will be sold to another Japanese. Whether the restaurant name, menu and quality of food remains the same, these we have to see!!

  1. Interesting, thanks for the update!

    1. I guess Kaji's project didn't work. I wonder if its because the price was too low and didn't cover the costs of the fish? Tough loss but I'm glad we still have Zen for good sushi.

not sure if the cost was really that high? Considering they served mainly standard cuts (maguro, sake, taco, hamachi) in their omakase.

The freshness and quality was there though.

I recommend folks to check out Solo Sushi-ya up in Newmarket for another $45 omakase experience.

According to the in-house sushi chef who is responsible for the buying of seaford for the restaurant, they only use the more expensive $28+ per lb 'Gampachi' varietal rather than the more common 'Hamachi'. The scallops used are the top notch 'King Scallops in the shell' from Maine. Both salmon roe and sea urchins are from Japan's Hokaido area. The salmon roe are furthur processed by marinating them in a mixture of Mirin, sake and top soy.before use.
As for the reason of the change of ownership. Apparently, nothing to do with Kaji ( who is only a consultant) or cost of food. Current owner, Michi san, just wanted to spend more time with her son, thats all!
