Erie, PA challenge

Philadelphia Chow-spouse is heading to Erie for a few days, 3/26 to 3/29/07. Any suggestions? Feel free to offer any and all suggestions - dinner, lunch, take out, snacks, whatever you know! I did a quick search and there is not much that seems current.
Thanks in advance!

  1. i haven't been to Erie in a while but it's main claim to fame, if you can believe highway signs is goat milk fudge - although I've never seen a goat up there. Another local speciality is fresh fried perch, which you can find in some of the restaurants near the Peninsula. Some of the local clubs also advertise fish frys on Friday nights - check the local papers. One of my favorites from long ago is a sandwich made on a hard pretzel, which you could get at the market around 22nd or 23rd & German.

    1. I used to live in Erie, but was young and broke (even more than I am now, at least) so didn't go out much. I remember there were some good restaurants right on the lake - you might head in that direction.

      1. For me, too, it has been a couple of years since I have been to Erie. Downtown, my wife and I have enjoyed the Pufferbelly on French Street. The Paper Moon was recommended to us but we didn't get there. Waterfront Place is where its name implies and serves good food. And, Molly Branigan's is a decent Irish pub. On the west side, l liked Serafini's for Italian food and El Canelo for inexpensive but good Mexican food. If Chow-spouse will have a car, a trip to North East and the wine country might be interesting. The Freeport Restaurant is there. They smoke their own ham and sausage. Always busy at breakfast. There were a couple of more upscale places just west of Erie. The best of them was the Stonehouse. Again, it has been at least two years since I have been to Erie but I hope this helps.
