Dinner near Madison Square Garden
Going to a concert tonight at MSG--- we're college students looking for a good place to eat in the area that's not too expensive. I've read suggestions for Seven and Keens, but they look a little too spendy. Any ideas?

One Korean restaurant that hasn't been mentioned is Han Bat, on the north side of 35 St. between 5th and 6th. It's quite inexpensive, as in, you can get out of there for about $12-13/person plus tip, depending on how you order. You may have to wait for a table, depending on when you come, but the service is usually pretty quick, especially at peak times. Very good bibimbap, and I like the banchan (free side dishes) there.

Did you check the menu in Keens' Pub Room? It is less expensive than the dining room.
Biricchino, on 29th, just east of 8th, is a very popular pre-MSG spot. Italian.
"Little Korea" is nearby. We like Kang Suh, on the corner of B'way & 32nd. Menu on menupages.com.

re: RGR
I'm seconding RGR's recommendation for Little Korea. 32nd is a veritable "wonderland" of Korean restaurants. If you wanted to eat very cheaply and very quickly, there's a Korean fast food place called Woorijip on the south side of 32nd, a little closer to 5th Ave. There is seating available, and the place is crowded and chaotic, but I had some great, spicy food there this week for less than $10. It's mostly buffet style (warm and cold), but there is also a noodle bar in the back where they prepare soups to order and serve in a hodge podge of mismatched bowls (with specific instructions to bring back the bowls!).
A friend at work just recommended Kang Suh to me as THE place to go for noodles.
If you want to go for drinks after the show, I recommend going to La Quinta Inn in the middle of 32nd St and going to their rooftop bar (Me Bar). It's cheap, it's outdoors (heat lamps if it's chilly) and it has a spectacular view of the Empire State Building right above. You can also have food delivered here (they have menus), or grab something at Woorijip right across the street and eat it here.

re: RGR
Koreatown is a good suggestion-- I'd head to two places we've written about recently: Kunjip on 32nd or Cho Dang Gol on 35th. Both are very good.

re: LFeinberg
A co-worker just broke down Korea Town for me, because I was stuck in a rut and always going to Kum Gang San. She said Kunjip is the hands down the best for BBQ, Woorijip was great for fast food Korean-style (but don't be surprised when you find spam and hot dogs in your food) and Kang Suh was the best for noodle soups. I could eat vats of kimchee, but it wouldn't make me a very popular person socially! Haha.

re: RGR
Seconding Biricchino enthusiastically. Affordable, very good Northern Italian, under the same ownership as the adjacent salumeria (http://www.salumeriabiellese.com/).
Get the antipasto, or order any of the entrees or specials with (homemade) sausage in them.
