North Fork tomorrow 3/23 with a baby

MrPhil Mar 23, 2007 06:55 AM

Taking some friends out east to the wineries tomorrow and we'll be looking for lunch or dinner on the north fork. We'll have my 9 month old daughter with us. I was wondering if there were any suggestions for an appropriate place . Nothing to expensive or fancy. It doesn't need to be seafood, but that's fine. I was thinking of Modern Snack Bar (never been there) but say it's closed for another 2 weeks. When we would take other friends out there, we would stop at I think Claudio's (it was in greenport, at the end of a dock, where we would sit outside. that would not work this time of year)

Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!!

I've eaten dinner at Skipper's three times and was excellent every time. Nice little dining room with a separate bar area, casual, lot of locals. Not sure about lunch though...

Skippers would be my first choice too, I know they're open at lunchtime as I've been there mid afternoon many times. Soundview isn't that bad either, the view is the best (you can stare at Connecticut while you eat); nice service, with very, very good deals for lunch. I like their soups especially. Both in Greenport area on Sound Ave.http://www.soundviewrestaurant.com/di...

You might also consider one of the branches of Cliff's Elbow Room. I no longer live on Long Island and understand that since Cliff died, some things have changed but I've heard that their marinated porterhouse steak is still one of the best steaks and best deals around. They also have quite good fried clams, and their sandwiches are a real deal.

If you like barbecue, there is Farmer Bar's in Cutchogue. Excellent barbecue and a nice local restaurant.
